Naming Traditions

Hello guys, this is my second post and i want to talk about Naming Tradition. As the tittle said, naming tradition, do you know there is a lot of ways to give name for baby in this world? Each country has their own tradition for naming their children. Usually, children get their last name or surname from his father and the women who married change their surname to her husband surname. It happened to American and Japanese. But Korean is different, a couple who already married don't share the same surname. Why? Because, Korean give the family name to their children before the given name. For example, the husband name is Kim Young Jae, and the wife name is Lee Ha Na. Eventhough they are married, Ha Na's surname still Lee and don't change into Kim. But their children surname is Kim, from the husband surname. That's the Korean naming tradition.
Beside Koreans, other Asians that have the same naming tradition as Korean is Chinese, Chambodians, Hmong, and Vietnamese.

Different from Korea, Mexican also have their own naming tradition. When a woman married, she keeps her maiden name and add her husband's surname in the last. Before her husband's surname, there is a word 'de'. It means, the wife is belong to the husband. For example, Bara Martinez married to Maria Gonzales. So, Maria's name become Maria Gonzales de Martinez.

In Indonesia, each region has different naming tradition. Balinese, has unique naming their children. Their children are named according to birth order. First born baby mostly named Wayan and Putu. The Second born baby is Made and Kadek. The third born baby is Nyoman and Komang. The fourth born baby is named Ketut. All that name can be for either boy or girl baby. So, if you find Balinese named Wayan, she or he is the first children. That's unique right?

Sometimes, Indonesians have surname, but not all indonesians have surname. I am one of Indonesian who have surname. My name is Rahmadania Putri Ferdianawati Iskandar, my surname is Iskandar. I got that surname from my father and my father got that name from my grandfather. I like when people said our family is Iskandars. I know it's a little bit strange to call it. Hehe:)
But, why my neighborhood call my mother name "Bu Ferry" -my father's name is Ferry F. Iskandar- not Mrs. Iskandar?
Maybe if i married a man who named Joko Santoso, my neighborhood call me "Bu Joko" not Mrs. Santoso. Hmm~ i think it's one of uniqueness in Indonesia that make us different from another country.

That's all the naming tradition in some country and the naming uniqueness in Indonesia.

Thank you for reading, and see you in the next post :)
